Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner was one of the guest speakers at the Newland Center’s recent 25th Anniversary Dinner, she spoke passionately about their work and the needs of adult learners in our community!

Over the years, these events have grown and are well attended by students, their families, friends and supporters. They are always a very heart-warming, high energy celebration of a monumental achievement in our students’ lives. We appreciate the support of our community partners too!

On April 25th, the Newland Center for Adult Learning and Literacy celebrated 25 years of service to thousands of adults driven by the belief in the power of literacy and the potential of all their students. Founded in 1990 under the sponsorship of Laubach Literacy (now ProLiteracy), the Newland Center (formerly The Learning Place) is a neighborhood center in the City of Syracuse that provides free literacy instruction to adults who are reading below a 4th grade level. According to Linda Green, Executive Director: "I am grateful to our Founder, Phyllis Newland, for also giving me the opportunity to work in the literacy field. I have met so many wonderful people and I have learned so much. Thank you friends, volunteers, students and donors for supporting this work under my direction. You make it all worthwhile!"
